- Fall colors
Chiming in from Southern New Hampshire, where I'll be staying until the last leaf has fallen. The trees are just beginning to turn here and it promises to be a glorious year for colors. Just now turning are the "swamp maples" -- the small maples that grow in low wet areas, and they are brilliant reds this year. I actually like this early color stage because it is so beautiful to see the bright patches against the predominant greens. It's a tantalizing promise of beauty to come -- and it can only get better.
