SKI magazine has called Wachusett Mountain the most accessible ski area in the eastern United States. Getting to the mountain from Boston just got easier. David Crowley, Wachusett Mountain owner and general manager, has joined with the Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority offering commuter rail service to Wachusett Mountain on weekends this winter.
The “ski train” will leave Boston’s North Station on Saturdays and Sundays at 8:35am and arrive in Fitchburg at 10:00am. A free shuttle from Wachusett will meet the train and shuttle you to the mountain in Princeton, 10 minutes away. At the end of the day, the shuttle will bring people back to the Fitchburg station for the 5:35pm return train to Boston.
The price of the train ticket is $15.50 round trip, a bargain considering today’s gas prices. And, the bargains don’t stop there; Wachusett Mountain will issue a $7.75 credit, good towards a lift ticket or lunch, to anyone who shows their train ticket at the ski area.
The mountain boasts a vertical of 1,000 feet offering glorious 360 degree views of western Massachusetts and New Hampshire from the summit. Boarders can swoosh around the Alpine Park and the new 350’ in ground half-pipe. Snowshoers, cross country and downhill skiers will enjoy Wachusett’s 22 groomed trails spread out over 50 acres.
After a day on the slopes treat yourself to a relaxing massage, sauna or steam with a stay at the Wachusett Village Inn. Weekend ski packages start at $89 to $179 per night, double occupancy. Your return train ticket will still be good on Sunday.
