Turn any Trip into a Full VacationMake the Most of Local Entertainment, Eateries
For those who never seem to have the time or money to take that dream vacation, the good news is almost any trip can turn into a long awaited and very refreshing break.
All it takes is a little know-how and a bit of imagination. Save Money on Travel by Visiting an Out-of-Town FriendVisiting an out of town friend or family member is always a great opportunity for a vacation, whether the town is familiar to a traveler or not. Every place is unique in some way – it’s up to a visitor to make the most of it. If there’s time to plan before leaving, do a little research on the town. What is its legacy? What is it famous for? Even little towns have their own claim to fame, whether it’s a historical event that took place there, a famous person who was born or lived there or the idea that they are home to the World’s Best Apple Pie. Knowing someone who lives in the town is a great resource for what’s good in food and entertainment. Especially if that friend was new to the town at one point, it’s likely that he or she has already done their homework on local activities and would be more than willing to share what he or she knows. Aim for restaurants and attractions that are unique, or at least ones that aren’t familiar to home. Eating at a chain restaurant or shopping at a store one could easily visit at home is wasting an opportunity if a vacation is the goal. Budget Travel Tip - Make the Most of a Business TripThis trip by name may be about business, but for those who can slip away for a little time to themselves, it can still be a vacation. No time to plan? Don’t know anyone in the town? Look for a visitor’s center or seek out the town hall or a government building. Most communities, small or large, do their best to market to travelers and other out of towners if not for any other reason than to bolster local businesses. Again, look for restaurants and attractions that are unique. Picking these stops at random can be exhilarating, but for those who aren’t as willing to take a risk, it’s a great idea to ask a local. After all, who knows better about what’s good to eat or where one might find great entertainment than someone who spends their entire lives right there? Staycations: Have Fun and Stay Home to Save MoneyJust because a place is within an hour or so radius of home doesn’t mean it is home. And even home, with an open mind and imagination, can turn into a vacation spot. Many would be surprised to find the number of tourist attractions that are located near or right at home that they have never been to. Local newspapers are a great source for finding these attractions and places as well as visitor’s centers people normally don’t think of visiting that close to home. Just by exploring new areas and new parts of town, home can even feel like someplace new and exotic.
