From D.C. to Vegas, find Independence Day festivities full of patriotic traditions.

Every July 4th, cities across America celebrate Independence Day with big events that include fun activities, food and, of course, fireworks. It doesn’t matter what area of the country you live in, there is probably a large 4th of July celebration close by. When looking for an event to attend, keep these tips in mind.

  • Consider travel times when choosing a celebration.
  • Keep in mind the interests of family. Maybe watching a parade would be more fun than standing at a concert.
  • Look for events with plenty of activities and places to explore while waiting on the fireworks to start.
  • Check the rules and regulations of the events regarding food, drink and readmission.

Here is a quick list of big celebrations that take place around the country from the casinos of Las Vegas to the steps of the White House.

Centennial Olympic Park, Atlanta

Centennial Olympic Park is the place to be for July 4th in Georgia. The all-day event includes children’s activities, musical performances and fireworks display. Three bands star in the 2009 concerts – Stokeswood, Infinity Show Band and Vertical Horizon. The night concludes with a fireworks show synchronized to patriotic tunes.

Boston, Massachusetts

While viewing this huge fireworks event in person is amazing, everyone has the opportunity to do so because the event broadcasts on CBS stations across the country. Since 1974, the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular – now known as the country’s premier show – has celebrated the nation’s freedom with pyrotechnic beauty.

Walt Disney World, Orlando

The magical place to visit is also one the best to celebrate Independence Day. With a day filled with celebration parades and fireworks shows there are patriotic festivities for everyone to enjoy. Activities take place at the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Downtown Disney, so you can choose the perfect place to spend the day.

Washington D.C.

There is no place more symbolic to spend the 4th of July holiday than in Washington D.C. Activities begin and end along the National Mall with many other special events taking place at popular spots in the city. The day’s events lead off with a grand Independence Day parade and close with a fireworks show with the United States capitol and monuments as the backdrop.

New Orleans

The American Pyrotechnic Association ranks the fireworks display over the New Orleans Riverfront as the 5th best in America. The unique show lights up the sky from barges floating on the Mississippi River. Before the big event, expect a day of music and food all provided with New Orleans flair.

Las Vegas

Sin City is a popular Independence Day destinations thanks to big musical acts, elaborate fireworks displays and other special events. Take your pick from the patriotic tunes of the Las Vegas Philharmonic, a Planet Hollywood pool party or the fireworks display from the top of City Hall.

Although they take place around the country, most popular Independence Day destinations promise a day of fun, a night of spectacular fireworks and an event full of patriotic pride.
