Each year many families and friends come together on Thanksgiving for a traditional meal and celebration. In more recent years however, family traditions have changed and some families now opt for a less traditional holiday weekend. Oftentimes this means searching for ways to have a more relaxing and stress-free time.
Thus several hotels and resorts have recognized the need for special Thanksgiving vacation packages. Being the holiday, these packages typically include overnight accommodations, a holiday meal (or dining discounts) and special activities.
Thanksgiving Vacation at a Resort in Ohio
Located in Sandusky about an hour from Cleveland, the Kalahari Resort is a convenient destination for travelers from Michigan, Ohio or Pennsylvania. It is also a great option for families with children. In addition to a year round indoor waterpark, the hotel offers a number of unique room designs including a Hut Room, African Queen and Village Suite (a three bedroom condominium). During the holidays the hotel will offer its normal activities along with a special Thanksgiving package. Chicago is host to one of the largest Thanksgiving parades. Consequently, an extended Thanksgiving weekend in downtown Chicago would make for quite an exciting holiday. The Hotel 71 is a chic boutique hotel with great views of the Chicago skyline. It is also just minutes away from many of Chicago's most popular destinations (and the parade route). Thanksgiving Vacation at a Hotel in Michigan
The luxurious Townsend Hotel in the Detroit suburb of Birmingham is also offering a special Thanksgiving package. Choose from any of their standard packages (i.e. the bed and breakfast deal) and add to it the Thanksgiving dinner at their infamous Rugby Grille.
If looking for a more family friendly getaway, consider staying the weekend at the Detroit Marriott's Renaissance Center. On Thanksgiving Day Detroit will host its annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. The Marriott at the Renaissance is within minutes of the parade route. In addition to overnight accommodations, the hotel package includes passes to the parade's VIP area.
Several tourist attractions will be open during the Thanksgiving weekend. Additionally, a number of restaurants now serve both traditional and non-traditional Thanksgiving meals making it much easier to travel or be away from home during the holidays.
