Michael Jackson Museum Displays and ExhibitsPlaces to Visit to Remember the King of Pop
Museums, libraries and other institutions in the Northeast are offering special tributes and exhibits in honor of Michael Jackson, the King of Pop.
True Michael Jackson fans just can't get enough of him. Memorials, tributes and celebrations continue to go on around the world even weeks after his death. Undoubtedly museums, libraries and other institutions will continue to offer displays and exhibits over the next several months in honor of the King of Pop. Motown Historical Museum (a.k.a Hitsville USA) in DetroitThe Jackson's got their big break when they were discovered by an executive at Motown Records. Consequently, since Jackson's death, the Motown Museum (or Hitsville USA) has been bombarded by fans and those wishing to express their condolences to his family. The Motown Historical Museum is a good place for fans to visit. Through guided museum tours, photos and images one can learn more about the history of the Jackson's and how they fit into the Motown family. Although Michael Jackson donated both a glove and hat to the museum, these items are no longer available for public display. Unfortunately they have been removed for security purposes. During the summer months the museum is open Monday through Saturday during standard business hours. Outside of the summer months the museum is closed on Monday. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in ClevelandThe Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is vital when it comes to the history of pop music. Thus it is also a wonderful place to visit to celebrate and commemorate Jackson's career. Some exhibits/collections to see pertaining to Michael Jackson include; Motown: The Sound of Young America Turns 50, and 500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll. During the summer, visitors can enjoy the museum daily until 5:30 p.m. (with longer hours on both Wednesday and Saturday). Rock Hall Annex in New York CityAn extension of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, the Rock Hall Annex in New York City offers a wide array of Jackson memorabilia. Some of these items include various handwritten lyrics as well as clothing worn by Jackson. Visitors can enjoy the New York museum seven days a week, and they are open late into the evening. The Indiana State Museum in IndianapolisLocated in the city of Indianapolis, the Indiana State Museum is home to several Jackson 5 artifacts, including outfits worn by them in various public appearances. The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m, and Sunday from 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Other special places for fans to visit and see include; 2300 Jackson Street (the home of the Jackson's in Gary, Indiana), Roosevelt High School also in Gary (where Michael once performed), and the Apollo Theater (instrumental in launching the career of the Jacksons and many other musicians) in New York City.
