Lake Michigan borders the states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and Indiana. This beautiful body of water is a great backdrop for a wonderful vacation.

Lake Michigan is one of the most breathtaking bodies of water in the United States. It borders four states: Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and Indiana. Throughout the summer, many enjoy a variety of sports and fun activities on and along Lake Michigan, making it a fabulous venue for a memorable vacation.

Visiting the Sand Dunes Along Lake Michigan

In addition to offering great views, there are many activities one can enjoy when visiting the sand dunes of Lake Michigan. Some fun things to do on the dunes include hiking, climbing, biking, and taking a dune cruise/ride. Following are some of the most popular dunes along Lake Michigan: Sleeping Bear Dunes (Empire, Michigan), Silver Lake Dunes (Hart/Mears, Michigan), Indiana Dunes State Park (Chesterton, Indiana), Tunnel Park Beach (Holland, Michigan) and Whitefish Dunes (Door County, Wisconsin).

Visiting Lake Michigan Beaches and Parks

Lake Michigan is also home to many public parks and beaches. Some are great for a days getaway, while others provide amenities for overnight camping. These beaches and parks offer a variety of fun activities such as swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, kite surfing and sand volleyball. The beach is also a wonderful place to just kick back and relax. Some popular beaches/parks along Lake Michigan include Oval Beach (Saugatuck, Michigan), Pere Marquette (Muskegon, Michigan), Illinois Beach State Park (Zion, Illinois), Michigan City Beach (Michigan City, Indiana), Silver Beach (St. Joseph, Michigan) and Oak Street Beach (Chicago, Illinois).

Visiting Lighthouses Along Lake Michigan

Photographers, artists, historians and many others have taken a great interest in the lighthouses on Lake Michigan. These beautiful structures are also a favorite for tourists and vacationers. Many lighthouses can only be admired from afar, while others are open to the public. Some of the lighthouses offering public tours include Grosse Pointe Light (Chicago, Illinois), Eagle Bluff Light (Door County, Wisconsin) or Big Sable Light (Ludington, Michigan).

Hotels/Lodging with Views of Lake Michigan

Nothing could be more romantic then waking up to a view of Lake Michigan. Various hotels/resorts offer rooms with lake views. Some lodging options to consider include the Radisson Hotel Racine Harbourwalk (Racine, Wisconsin), Pfister Hotel (Milwaukee, Wisconsin), Boulevard Inn (St. Joseph, Michigan) and Drake Hotel (Chicago).

There are many other ways one can enjoy a Lake Michigan vacation. When planning your itinerary consider dining at a restaurant with a view of the lake, enjoying a cruise or golfing along Lake Michigan (i.e., Old Channel Trail in Montague, Michigan or Crooked Tree Golf Course in Bay Harbor, Michigan).
