Merry-Go-Rounds Still Popular With Tourists

Musical carousels are still a popular form of entertainment and amusement. A ride on a merry-go-round can be lots of fun for children and adults alike.

When one thinks of musical carousels they often think of carnivals or theme parks. But in addition to being a source of amusement, carousels are also an attraction for tourists because of their beauty and sometimes even their rich history. A visit to a carousel can be enjoyable for both children and adults. They are a great choice for a romantic date, group outing or a special day of family bonding.

Carousel at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York

A part of the city of New York's Parks and Recreations Department, this carousel is located in the heart of Brooklyn's Prospect Park. Riders can choose from a variety of animals or to sit in one of the carousels two chariots. Prospect Park's carousel can be enjoyed from early Spring through late Fall (depending upon the weather).

Carousel at Richland Carrousel Park in Mansfield, Ohio

This carousel is very unique in that it was made especially for Richland Park. Additionally, it is the first hand carved carousel made/created since the 1930's. Because it is enclosed, it is also one of the only carousels in the Northeast that is open year round. Riders can enjoy a variety of hand carved animals/figurines including horses, bears, cats and ostriches.

Carousel at Navy Pier in Chicago, Illinois

This carousel is one of several amusement rides at Chicago's Navy Pier. It offers riders the opportunity to climb aboard one of its many horses or other animals, or the option of cruising along in a chariot. It is possibly one of the most popular carousels in the Midwest.

Carousel at the Public Museum of Grand Rapids, Michigan

Located in the hub of downtown Grand Rapids, the Public Museum of Grand Rapids is home to the 1928 Spillman Carousel. What makes this musical carousel so appealing is its stunning decor with rich and bold colors, and the carousel's location which overlooks Grand Rapids' Grand River. Unfortunately only guests to the museum can enjoy this carousel.

Bushnell Park Carousel in Hartford, Connecticut

Located in the center of Hartford, this antique carousel has been restored to its original grandeur. It is a must see for carousel lovers and those interested in history/antiques. Although this is an indoor carousel, presently guests can only enjoy riding the carousel seasonally from May through October.

Carousel rides are also great economical entertainment choices. Admission costs range from $1 - $5 per ride. Most of the rides only last a few minutes so ride them again and again.
